Manitowoc County sex offender indicted on new child pornography charges

MANITOWOC COUNTY (WLUK) — A Manitowoc County sex offender has been charged with new child pornography crimes.

On Tuesday, a federal grand jury indicted Robert D. Nytes, 49, of Kossuth – a small town in Manitowoc County. The indictment accuses Nytes of producing child pornography as a registered sex offender.

According to officials, in February 2023, Nytes employed a minor “to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing a visual display.”

Nytes had previously been convicted twice in Sheboygan County of second-degree sexual assault of a child and was required to register as a sex offender.

If convicted of producing child pornography, Nytes faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 35 years and up to life in prison. He also faces a mandatory 10 years in prison consecutively if convicted of producing child pornography as a sex offender.

Nytes could also be fined up to $250,000.
