Harris Campaign Reaches Billion in Donations: Reports | News about the 2024 US election

The large war chest could boost Harris’ advertising and operations in the final stages of the campaign.

According to US media reports, US Vice President Kamala Harris has raised more than $1 billion in donations since she became her party’s presidential candidate in July.

While the Harris campaign has not yet revealed the exact total amount, multiple sources familiar with the numbers, cited by The New York Times and NBC News, confirmed that it has surpassed the $1 billion mark. This includes money earmarked for her campaign and related Democratic Party committees.

The dizzying fundraising surge gives Harris far more money than her Republican opponent, former President Donald Trump, to spend in the final stages of a neck-and-neck race.

In August, Trump and the Republican Party raised $130 million, leaving them with $295 million in cash on hand, compared to $404 million for Harris and the Democrats.

Harris is also poised to significantly surpass Trump’s $160 million fundraising total in September, having raised $72 million at three month-end events, The New York Times reports.

However, Republicans are making up some ground through Super Political Action Committees (PACs), organizations that can pool unlimited funds for candidates without coordinating directly with their campaigns.

According to OpenSecrets, a nonprofit focused on campaign finance and transparency, the largest super PAC supporting Trump has spent tens of millions of dollars more so far in the 2024 election cycle than the largest super PAC supporting Harris.

Too close to call

Harris’ large campaign coffers are expected to boost her advertising and activity in battleground states in the month leading up to the Nov. 5 election, which polls show is currently a mess.

While Harris maintains a slight national lead in the polls, most of the seven key swing states that could decide the election are too close to call.

A new InsiderAdvantage poll for Pennsylvania, the swing state with the most potential to influence the election, shows Trump with a two-point lead.

After Harris replaced 81-year-old President Joe Biden as her party’s nominee in July, she had to deal with building campaign infrastructure and wooing donors.
