Conway is preparing for the CCU football watch party “Tealgate” on Thursday

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Coastal Carolina fans can watch Thursday night’s football game against James Madison University at Town Green in Conway.

Tealgate will feature food trucks, live entertainment from the CCU band and a 300-inch screen to watch the action.

“It’s one thing to watch it in the living room. It’s another thing to see it tomorrow night on a giant screen with as many fans as we can pack here,” said Conway City Manager Adam Emrick.

Thursday’s event is part of the City of Conway’s ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with Coastal Carolina.

“We have Chanticleers painted on our streets, we have the murals in Teal Alley. Driving through Conway you can’t miss the teal and I think that’s a relatively new thing for the area,” Emrick said. “Kids used to be raised to cheer for Clemson or USC, and now they’re raised to cheer for the Chanticleers.”

The watch party could boost the local economy. The manager of Teal Nation in downtown Conway said his store saw an influx of shoppers last fall in front of both Tealgates.

“It brings a lot of people to downtown Conway and makes for a great retail day for us,” Brendan McShane said.

Fans can bring drinks from nearby restaurants to the Town Green and are asked to bring blankets, Emrick said.

The event starts on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Kick-off is for 7:30 p.m
