Sahariar was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:35 p.m. and his colleague was taken to a nearby hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

An investigation by the Fairfield Police Department and the Essex County Homicide Task Force led to the identification of the suspect.

Malcolm was subsequently taken into custody Wednesday by members of the U.S. Marshal’s Service Fugitive Task Force and Essex County investigators at a residence in Middletown.

Malcom has been charged with murder, attempted murder, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and is being held in New York pending extradition to New Jersey.
