It won’t stop all violent crime here in Houston, but at least you can finally see the real numbers.

District Attorney Kim Ogg partnered with the University of Houston to introduce a new crime dashboard for Harris County that allows you to review up to 1 million criminal cases.

The tool was developed through a collaboration between the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and the Hewlett Packard Enterprise Data Science Institute at UH.

“Our office has had a simple mission for the last seven and a half, almost eight years, and that mission is that we are committed to making our community safer through evidence-based law enforcement and equal justice for all.” “That means in everyone case to ensure a fair trial for the victim, the defendant and the community,” Ogg said.

Prosecutors also said they hope the media will now tell the truth when it comes to crime figures and the judges who have repeatedly released criminals on bail.

“This is also, in a way, a reality check of what is being reported,” Ogg told the group, “And I think that the media has a responsibility, as do we, to be very transparent.”
