People may want to avoid the new “scary” area at GlasGLOW

Councilors this morning heard how the team behind the Botanic Gardens’ lighting and sound attraction have been working to keep noise down following complaints.

A new clown zone has been created among the 10 “areas” of the horror show.

Itison CEO Oli Norman said: “If you don’t like clowns, you can pass.”

The company’s website says: “This year, GlasGLOW will feature an area – Clowntown – that some may find a little scary. An alternative route is available for those who would prefer to skip this section.”

There will also be Marshmallow Land, a Haunted House area and the House of Mirrors, as well as food and drinks.

Councilors granted a temporary public entertainment license for the event this morning after learning their team had worked with the council, residents and local organizations to address concerns.

In 2023, a resident complained about noise as the person was working from home – both complaints were resolved informally.

A council official said: “We have been working with the organizer and he has been willing to make changes.”

Mr Norman said real-time noise monitoring was being carried out and buses were making more noise on Great Western Road.

Dowanhill, Hyndland and Kelvinside Borough Council submitted a comment on the event, including the impact on the ecology of the park.

Mr Norman told the Licensing and Regulation Committee today: “It is a low impact event.”

He added: “There is a small group of people who just don’t like the event.”

But he acknowledged that “there are some glitches.”

Responding to concerns about the park closing early for the event, he said the event only lasts 15 to 30 minutes.

He added: “We are making a big effort to put up signage to let people know the gardens are closing.”

Committee chairman, Councilor Alex Wilson from the SNP, said: “We definitely need events in the city.”

The outdoor event will take place from October 24th to November 12th from 4:30 p.m. to 10:45 p.m
