Election season scams to watch out for

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont officials are warning voters about the disinformation and fraud they may encounter this election season.

Both Vermont Secretary of State Sarah Copeland Hanzas and Attorney General Charity Clark say a new website provides information about scams and the increasing influence of “deepfakes” – images, videos or audio generated by artificial intelligence that appear realistic but are fake are.

Anyone who encounters election or other consumer fraud is urged to contact the state’s consumer protection hotline.
