Man called “Porkchop” convicted of fatal knife attack in 2022

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A man known as “Porkchop” was sentenced Wednesday to 83 years in prison for a fatal knife attack in August 2022, according to the Marion County District Attorney’s Office.

The Marion County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday that Christopher “Porkchop” Rawlings was sentenced to 83 years in prison for the August 2022 stabbing death of Aaron Flora. In September, Rawlings was found guilty of murder after a two-day trial, and at the end of the trial he pleaded guilty to enhancing the sentence for habitual offenders. Rawlings was sentenced to 60 years for murder, 20 years for enhanced sentence and an additional three years for violating probation.

On August 29, 2022, Flora and some friends were at a residence in the 2900 block of Brill Road, where Flora would be helping a friend repair cars and mopeds. Flora, a woman and a man later identified as Rawlings were in a shed at the rear of the residence. The woman asked Rawlings if she had a minute to speak to Flora alone. Rawlings acknowledged her and quickly began stabbing Flora in the neck with a knife.

The victim exited the shed and people in the apartment began rendering aid and calling for help. Rawlings was able to flee the scene before police arrived.

When Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department investigators arrived, they found a folding knife with blood on the blade near the scene of the stabbing. Video from the residence’s surveillance cameras showed Rawlings entering the shed with a knife in his hand. After the stabbing, the victim can be seen leaving the shed while holding his throat. Shortly afterwards, Rawlings can be seen running away and escaping over a fence.

Several witnesses were able to identify Rawlings from a series of photographs.

“We are grateful for today’s announcement and the eyewitnesses who came forward and enabled us to bring justice to Mr. Flora. The defendant showed no regard for human life, and we will continue to vigorously prosecute those who continue to commit such senseless acts of violence in our community.”
