Diarrhea: Tragic diarrhea outbreak claims two lives in Dongargaon |

Raipur: In the village Asra in the Dongargaon Block of Rajnandgaon Two elderly people died in the district Diarrhea while more than 30 patients with complaints of vomiting, abdominal pain and dehydration were identified in the region.
One of the deceased, 65-year-old Tikaram Sahu, was initially admitted to a private hospital in Rajnandgaon but was later referred to the hospital Medical college hospital (MCH), where he died during treatment.
Another elderly man aged 80 died while being treated by a private doctor in the village. Both patients also had comorbidities, officials said.
Diarrhea has been reported in Aasra, Sambalpur and Kokpur villages of Dongargaon block in the last five days.
Currently, eight patients from Sambalpur are being treated at MCH and others are being cared for in private hospitals.
Diarrhea first spread in Kokpur where 15 cases were identified, followed by 14 cases in Sambalpur. Of these, eight patients remain in hospital under medical supervision and several have already been discharged.
Health authorities have increased their vigilance, ordering house-to-house surveys and medical camps where cases continue to emerge.
The outbreak had started in Kokpur village and has since spread to neighboring villages in the block.
Dr. BL Tulavi of Medical College confirmed that the deceased were suffering from age-related diseases besides diarrhea.
To test the water supply, water samples were taken from the affected areas by the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department.
Villagers have been directed to clean their water tanks and more water samples from Sambalpur and Asra have been sent for analysis, but the test results are yet to come.
The block doctor of Dongargaon, Dr. Ragini Chandre, said that serious cases were being actively treated in the health camps.
