Man sentenced to prison for stabbing a teenager as he left a restaurant in north London

A man has been jailed for killing 18-year-old Yusuf Mahamoud by stabbing him in the neck as he left a restaurant in Finchley with friends.

Tyrese Jennings, 21, was jailed for 13 years at the Old Bailey on Wednesday after being convicted of manslaughter.

Police and paramedics were called to reports of a stabbing on Regent’s Park Road in Finchley at around 9.40pm on August 7 last year.

They found Mr Mahamoud, from Enfield, seriously injured. He died at the scene of the accident from a stab wound to the neck.

Investigators discovered that Mr Mahamoud had left his home in the evening before arriving in a car with several friends in the Regent’s Park Road area at around 9pm. They got out and went to a nearby restaurant.

Jennings and two teenagers confronted Mr Mahamoud as he left the restaurant.

During the ensuing altercation, Mr Mahamoud was stabbed in the neck and the three men fled.

Investigators began investigating and quickly identified the three men as Jennings and two 15-year-old boys using surveillance cameras and cell phone analysis.

Jennings, of Litchfield Grove, Finchley, was arrested on August 14 and charged with murder. He was found guilty of manslaughter on July 11 following a trial at the Old Bailey. He was found not guilty of murder.

He was sentenced to 13 years in prison at the same court on Wednesday (October 9).

The two 15-year-old boys, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were also charged with murder. They were not found guilty of all crimes in the same court.

Crime specialist Detective Chief Inspector Tom Williams said on Wednesday: “Our thoughts are with Yusuf’s family today. He was a young man with life ahead of him and they continue to mourn his untimely loss.”

“I hope that Jennings’ conviction and sentencing today provides them with some comfort.”
