The identities of the two victims of Tuesday’s fatal crash in Detroit Lakes have been released

Detroit Lakes, MN – The identities of the two victims of a fatal car crash in Detroit Lakes on Tuesday (October 8) have been released.

On Tuesday afternoon at approximately 1:47 p.m., the Minnesota State Patrol responded to a three-vehicle accident near mile marker 269 on Highway 59 in Detroit Lakes. According to officials, a sedan and a van were traveling northbound and another van was traveling southbound. All three vehicles were involved in the accident, but the course of events is still under investigation.

The sedan’s occupants, 33-year-old Cole Carlson of Detroit Lakes and his passenger, 60-year-old Stacey Marlyn Nelson of Hawley, were pronounced dead at the scene. Neither of them were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. The occupants of the southbound van, a couple from Fosston, were taken to Essentia Emergency Room for non-life-threatening injuries, and the driver of the other van was uninjured.

The State Patrol was assisted by the Becker County Sheriff’s Office, St. Mary’s EMS and the Detroit Lakes Fire Department.
