New Jersey man, 61, sentenced to 10 years in prison for sexually assaulting boy

A New Jersey man was sentenced to 16 years in state prison for sexually abusing a boy over 10 years old.

Juan A. Fernandez, 61, must serve the full sentence but will spend the final five years at the Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center in the Avenel section of Woodbridge, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office said. After his release, he will be under parole supervision for life.

Fernandez, of Montville’s Towaco neighborhood, attacked the child when she was between 6 and 16 years old.

Fernandez pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault in June.

He was originally charged in April with three counts of aggravated sexual assault, five counts of sexual assault, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and criminal sexual contact. The investigation began in March.
