Minnesota woman convicted in death of child she cared for

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (KROC-AM News) – A Minnesota woman has been convicted for her role in the death of a child.

She was one of two people accused of depriving the child of necessary nutrition and health care in 2022.

According to federal court documents, the child died this year as a result of starvation and an infection.

Red Lake woman convicted of depriving her child of food and health care

In April, a federal jury found him guilty in the case 64 years old Sharon Rosebear of Red Lake for criminal child neglect.

Federal court documents show that Rosebear, who was appointed as the child’s guardian, withheld food and medical care from the minor despite having the means and ability to do so.

Health care is free for residents of the Red Lake Indian Reservation and Rosebear and her co-defendant, identified as Julius Fineday Sr., received financial assistance to purchase food, according to evidence presented in the federal trial.

Court documents say the child died at the same weight as she was three years ago and that she was isolated because of a severe lice infection and never received medical care, federal court documents say.

A news release from the Minnesota U.S. Attorney’s Office said that Minnesota law states that Rosebear was responsible for the child’s care even though he did not have custody.

Rosebear was sentenced to 15 months in prison on Tuesday. Fineday Sr. was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to the same charge earlier this year.
