Katelyn Sutton was sentenced to 15 years in prison and 10 years probation after pleading guilty.

JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – A woman has been convicted in the death and abuse of her stepchild in Jackson County.

In a statement released by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office on April 5, 2022, officers responded to a call about a small child who was not breathing.

When officers arrived, they found the child unresponsive. Officers performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but the child later died after being taken to Jackson Hospital in Marianna.

Investigators noted injuries to the child’s body consistent with child abuse and/or neglect. Further investigation led to the arrest of the child’s stepmother, Katelyn Sutton, three days later.

Sutton was sentenced to 15 years in prison and 10 years probation after pleading guilty to aggravated manslaughter of a child and aggravated child abuse.
