Norfolk police identify pilot in fatal crash near Karl Stefen Airport

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Norfolk police have identified the pilot who died in a crash in northeast Nebraska on Monday.

Police have now identified 37-year-old Philip K. Widner of Bedford, Texas, as the pilot who died in a plane crash near Karl Stefen Airport.

Widner worked for Ameriflight, delivering packages to Omaha. Norfolk police said he landed at the airport at 7:09 p.m. and departed at 7:35 p.m

Norfolk police and firefighters, along with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, responded shortly after the crash around 7:40 p.m. Rescue workers discovered that the twin-engine plane had crashed shortly after takeoff.

While the exact cause of the crash has not yet been determined, stay tuned to 10/11 for updates.
