Two dead, three injured after rockets hit northern Israel – Israel News

On Wednesday, about 40 rockets were identified that flew from Lebanon toward the Upper Galilee and Haifa Bay, killing two people in Kiryat Shmona, MDA said. According to the IDF, 20 of the 40 rockets were discovered during a barrage on Kiryat Shmona.

The two people killed were a couple, a man and a woman, both 40 years old, Israeli media reported. They suffered fatal injuries from falling shrapnel while walking their dogs and did not have time to enter the protected area, Ynet reported.

Three injured treated by MDA paramedics

The three wounded were treated by MDA medics in the Haifa Bay area.

All three wounded were hit by shrapnel, one of them is a 16-year-old in moderate condition and another is about 50 years old and suffering from minor wounds, MDA reported.

Eight people were taken to the Rambam Health Care Campus in Haifa for medical treatment, one of whom was in serious condition and the rest suffering from minor wounds.

In addition to those taken for medical treatment, another person was injured in a motorcycle accident with the siren on and is in moderate condition.

The Israeli Air Force intercepted some of the rockets while others struck open areas, the military added.

Israeli police and Northern District bomb squads operated in the Kiryat Shmona area after the barrage and confirmed the deaths of the man and woman there.

In their statement, police urged the public not to be near areas with shrapnel and rocket remnants amid fears they may still contain explosive material.

The police also dealt with shrapnel and rocket remnants that were fired towards Haifa. They found that there were several locations where intercept fragments had fallen.
