St Vincent condemns attack on UAE diplomatic premises

The government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines has condemned the Sudanese army’s attack on the United Arab Emirates (UAE) diplomatic compound, calling it a “flagrant violation of international law.”

“The Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines unequivocally condemns the recent dastardly attack on the official residence of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Head of Mission in Khartoum, Sudan, which resulted in significant damage to the diplomatic premises.

“The UAE has publicly called the Sudanese army an aggressor. “The Sudanese army has not accepted any responsibility for this heinous act,” Ralph Gonsalves’ government said in a statement.

The UAE has since called on the United Nations to send experts to examine the evidence and examine the damage caused by the attack five days ago.

Deputy Minister of Security and Military Salem Al Jaberi confirmed the attack on his country’s diplomatic mission and said it caused significant damage to the building and the surrounding area.

“The attack represents a blatant violation of the fundamental principle of inviolability of diplomatic premises, as well as international conventions and norms, in particular the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations,” the UAE said.

Al Jaberi said there are images and evidence that irrefutably prove the attack on the ambassador’s residence, undermining the false narrative spread by the Sudanese Foreign Ministry and its armed forces.

The UAE said the Sudanese Armed Forces had continually sought to evade legal and moral responsibility for the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Sudan as a result of that conflict “by misleading the international community and diverting attention from the suffering of the Sudanese people.” and at the same time evaded their imposed obligations” through international efforts to end the conflict.

“The UAE, together with its partners, continues to work diligently towards a peaceful solution.”

The government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines stated that diplomatic premises, including the official residence of accredited diplomats, were protected by international law.

“The blatant disregard for the fundamental legal principle of the inviolability of diplomatic premises is an affront to all member states of the United Nations. It therefore requires unequivocal condemnation by all right-thinking peoples and nations.

“The Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines joins the international community in condemning this unlawful act. “It is further demanded that the perpetrators of this illegal act accept full responsibility, apologize fully, be adequately compensated and undertake to comply with the requirements of international law.”

The country of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) also said it called on “all belligerents in the conflict in Sudan to make peace to end the suffering and loss of life of the Sudanese people.”
