Katelyn Sutton pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter of a child and was sentenced on October 8, 2024 to 15 years in prison and 10 years probation

On Tuesday, October 8, 2024, Katelyn Sutton was sentenced to 15 years in prison and 10 years probation after pleading guilty to aggravated manslaughter of a child and aggravated child abuse.

On April 5, 2022, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) officers responded to a call regarding a small child who was not breathing. When emergency responders arrived on scene, they found the child unresponsive and performed CPR. The child was transported to the hospital but later died.

Officers noticed the child had injuries to his body and contacted the JCSO Criminal Investigation Division. Investigators collected evidence and conducted interviews at the scene. Additionally, an investigator traveled to Jackson Hospital and determined that the child had injuries consistent with child abuse and/or neglect.

After an extensive investigation by the JCSO, probable cause was found for the arrest of the child’s stepmother, Katelyn Sutton.

On April 8, 2022, the JCSO, along with members of the United States Marshal’s Service’s Florida Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force, took Sutton into custody.

“I am proud of the work the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division did to bring Sutton to justice,” said Sheriff Edenfield. “We extend our deepest condolences and prayers to the child’s and Katelyn Sutton’s families.”
