Russia reports destruction of 47 Ukrainian drones

Russia said on Wednesday it had destroyed 47 Ukrainian aerial drones that were targeting several areas along the Russian-Ukrainian border.

The Russian Defense Ministry said it shot down 24 of the drones over the Bryansk region, as well as additional drones over Belgorod, Kursk, Rostov, Krasnodar and the Sea of Azov.

Ukrainian forces have repeatedly attacked border regions to repel a full-scale Russian invasion that began in early 2022.

The Ukrainian military said on Wednesday it had shot down 21 of 22 Russian drones launched overnight.

The interception attacks took place over the Kiev, Odessa and Vinnystia regions, the Ukrainian Air Force said.

Russia also used three ballistic missiles in its latest round of daily attacks, prompting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to call for more air defense aid as well as permission to use weapons donated by the West to attack military sites inside Russia.

A US-led meeting of countries coordinating aid to Ukraine was due to take place in Germany on Saturday, with US President Joe Biden set to lead the high-level talks.

But with a major hurricane hitting the United States, the White House said on Tuesday that Biden would not take part in the talks.
