The Tigard-Tualatin School District is facing a lawsuit after a teacher is accused of hitting a child

The mother of a first-grader is suing the Tigard-Tualatin School District.

She claims her son’s teacher hit him several times for standing on a chair during class.

The alleged incident occurred at Byrom Elementary School in December.

The lawsuit alleges the teacher reported the incident to district administrators, saying she “did something inappropriate” and “had to turn herself in.”

The lawsuit alleges that she was placed on leave but was later allowed to return to her original position.

“The teacher reported to the principal and was temporarily suspended. The child was completely traumatized. “The parent ultimately moved out of the district,” said attorney Randy Harvey.

The lawsuit seeks $350,000. In a statement, the Tigard-Tualatin School District said it cannot comment on pending litigation. They also say the district is “strongly invested in student safety and we take all allegations involving student well-being very seriously.”
