Investigators are searching for the hit-and-run driver who left a 62-year-old woman dead on the street in the Watts neighborhood of South Los Angeles on Monday.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, it happened on Imperial Highway, west of Parmelee Avenue, around 8:50 p.m.

“The victim was walking south on Imperial Highway … outside of a crosswalk when he was struck by a two-tone silver or white sedan traveling east on Imperial Highway,” the LAPD statement said. “The driver of the sedan failed to stop and render aid as required by law and continued driving.”

On Monday, the victim was identified as 62-year-old Ms. Denise Barkus of Los Angeles.

As with all fatal hit-and-run collisions in Los Angeles, city officials are offering a $50,000 reward for information that helps solve the case.
