The Packers appear ready to put the Romeo Doubs drama behind them

Last week, it seemed like the Green Bay Packers were ready to make an example of young wide receiver Romeo Doubs. Doubs had decided to express his frustration with his involvement in the offensive by skipping two days of training and meetings. Green Bay responded by suspending him in Week 5 against the Los Angeles Rams.

It really seemed like the Packers were ready to use Doubs as a role model. Their success will depend on 53 men stepping up and doing their part every week. Green Bay is built on this type of culture, and for Doubs to behave so selfishly was alarming for his career as a Packer.

Many speculated that Green Bay might trade him. Doubs is still young and talented, so his value and the market for him would have been hot. There would be plenty of teams in football willing to part with serious draft compensation for him.

But now it seems like Green Bay is ready to put all the drama behind them. Hopefully Doubs is now on the same page as coach Matt LaFleur and the Packers.

Coach LaFleur had a conversation with Doubs after he served his suspension.

“I won’t go into specifics, but I think it was productive and we look forward to getting him back on Wednesday,” LaFleur said.

There has never been anything like this in Doubs’ football career. He has always been someone who stayed out of the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Doubs was never seen as a problem in the locker room or anything like that. This incident would make him a “first offender,” which should earn him some leniency in the eyes of LaFleur and the rest of the organization.

“It’s a pretty isolated case. “This has never happened to him before and I don’t expect it to happen in the future,” LaFleur said.

Whatever the conversation was between LaFleur and his young wide receiver is unknown, but it doesn’t really need to be known. It’s better to leave such things between the coach and the player. The Packers will bring Doubs back and LaFleur hints that things will get better in the future. That should be all Packers fans need to hear to regain their faith in Doubs.

With Christian Watson out, it can be assumed that Doubs will play a slightly larger role in the offense in the future.
