Mandi IIT student dies after tragic fall while trekking

Mihir Kumar Sinha, a student of IIT Mandi and a native of Patna, Bihar, tragically died on October 5 after falling from a hill near Aliyas Lake in Lahaul and Spiti district. Mihir was part of a group of ten students who had gone on a trekking expedition to the lake.

According to Lahaul and Spiti SP Mayank Chaudhary, the group reported the incident after reaching Sissu, which led to a rescue operation led by Keylong DSP assisted by the DDMA, ITBP Karga and Mountaineering Institute Sub-Center Jispa.

The rescue team navigated the difficult terrain to retrieve the body. No suspicious circumstances were identified and the victim’s body was taken to the Regional Hospital in Keylong. His family was informed of the accident on Monday.
