Tragic discovery: Elephant calf found dead in pond near Similipal Reserve | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar/Baripada: The carcass of a baby elephant was fished out from a pond nearby Jhinkpahadi village in Nafri Panchayat at the foot of Similar tiger reserve on Tuesday.
Sources said that a herd of around 30 elephants was seen roaming in the area for the past few days and the baby elephant is believed to have separated from the herd and met a tragic end.
On Tuesday, villagers discovered the carcass Elephant calf and informed them Forestry Department about the incident. An official from Bangiriposi area visited the spot and initiated an investigation.
The calf is believed to be 2-3 months old. “The exact cause of death will be known after an autopsy,” a forest department official said.
