70-year-old woman killed in crash allegedly caused by driver fleeing police

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC/Gray News) – A 70-year-old woman was killed in a crash that allegedly resulted from a police chase in Alabama.

The accident occurred Monday on Interstate 59 near the 108 mile mark in Jefferson County.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the woman as 70-year-old Angela Strickland Lockhart of Birmingham.

The coroner says Lockhart’s car was struck head-on by the driver of another vehicle that was fleeing from Bessemer police.

It is not known why the driver fled from police.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating the crash.
