The video shows moments leading up to the police shooting in Stonington

PORTLAND (WGME) – Video obtained by the CBS13 I-Team shows the moments leading up to a man being shot and killed by police in Hancock County over the weekend.

According to investigators, it all started after the suspect threatened to burn down a house.

The I-Team obtained the video through a public records request from the Maine Attorney General’s Office.

It all happened Saturday afternoon in the town of Stonington when the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office said they were called for a man who was threatening to burn down a family member’s home. When they confronted him, he pulled a gun from his waistband.

The 35-year-old man, who we cannot identify, was shot by the officer but is expected to recover.

In the video, he can be seen cocking the gun after pulling it from his hip. He is then seen raising the gun in the air towards his head.

The police officer then shot the man four times before administering first aid.

The suspect was then taken to a hospital in Bangor.

It’s unclear if the suspect will face any charges in connection with all of this.

The deputy involved is on administrative leave, which is standard practice in a shooting like this.

The Maine Attorney General’s Office will now investigate whether the use of deadly force was justified.

Under state law, they have six months to make that decision.
