Susquehanna Twp. Football is more than just the Lex Cyrus show

Susquehanna Township’s Lex Cyrus is one of the best wide receivers in the state. Defenses tend to design coverages his way, and he catches the attention of each team’s best defensive back.

Cyrus is rightly a four-star recruit who proves every Friday night why he is verbally committed to South Carolina.

But when you look at the box score, names like Jarrett Kern and Rakhi Seville keep popping up with good, even great, performances.

“The Indians” are more than just the Lex Cyrus show. Hanna’s squad is full of people who play regularly. If Hanna wants to compete for a PIAA 4A championship, they will have to rely on their playmakers to lead the way.

Cyrus is obviously at the center of any discussion surrounding Hanna’s crimes, but he shouldn’t be the only person in the conversation. On any given Friday, someone not named Cyrus can have a big game.

For example, running back Rahki Seville starred in Hanna’s 35-28 win over East Pennsboro last Friday. Sevilla finished the game with 128 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. His aggressive running style was crucial to Hanna’s victory.

Having multiple playmakers who can hurt a defense can create big opportunities for the offense, and Hanna head coach Joseph Headen knows that.

“It’s big in high school football,” Headen said. “You have four or five people you can rely on to produce, which is an advantage for us.”

Cyrus is a true Division I athlete and gets the most attention in Hanna’s offense. But Seville, wide receiver Jarrett Kern and quarterback Torin Evans all present their own challenges for a defense.

Headen knows he will have to rely on them not only this season, but also the next two seasons.

“We’ll be counting on them for the next two years,” Headen said.
