Driver arrested after rollover crash on a Colorado highway that killed two people

GREELEY, Colo. (KKTV) – The Greeley Police Department said four people were thrown from a truck and two were killed in a crash on Highway 34 near Highway 257.

Police said they were called to the crash at 6:37 a.m. Friday. Police, firefighters, paramedics and other first responders all arrived to help.

According to police, four men were thrown from their truck after it rolled over several times. Two of the passengers died and two others suffered serious, life-threatening injuries. None of the passengers have been identified.

The driver of the truck, 48-year-old Hector Castaneda Lopez, was not ejected and was hospitalized for a short time. Police said they found probable cause to arrest Lopez and arrested him the next day.

Lopez was charged with two counts of criminal homicide and two counts of vehicular assault, both of which police said were felonies.

Police said they believe speed, dangerous driving and passengers not wearing seatbelts contributed to the severity of the crash and the injuries.
