Two others were arrested after a shooting in the Columbia neighborhood

COLUMBIA, Missouri (KMIZ)

Police arrested two Columbia men this week in connection with a shooting in a residential area, bringing the total number of suspects to four.

Officers arrested Derek Reynold, 18, on Monday and Amare Carter, 18, on Tuesday, according to a news release from the Columbia Police Department. The police had already arrested two teenagers.

Reynold and Carter were charged Tuesday with four felonies each: first-degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.

Amare Carter (Boone County Jail)

Police were dispatched to a shots fired call near Godas Drive and Valley Creek Lane on Thursday and found two vehicles and a residence struck by bullets. A probable cause statement filed in Reynold’s case said officers found six to eight bullet casings at the scene. A bullet went through the front window of a residence and out the back while there were 10 people inside – eight of them teenagers, the statement said.

Police interviewed a witness who told them they were with Reynold and Carter, who planned to drive-by shooting on Godas Drive.

The vehicle they were in crashed after shots were fired and Carter and Reynold fled the scene, court documents say.

Derek Reynold (Boone County Jail)

Reynold told police he was in the vehicle during the shooting but did not have a weapon, the statement said.

Both men remained in the Boone County Jail Tuesday.

A hearing was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
