FBI says Afghan man planned election day attack in US – NECN

The FBI has arrested an Afghan man who officials say was inspired by the Islamic State and planned to attack large crowds in the United States on Election Day, the Justice Department said Tuesday.

Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, 27, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, was arrested after the FBI discovered he had stockpiled automatic weapons and taken steps to liquidate his family’s assets.

After his arrest, Tawhedi told investigators that he had planned an attack on Election Day that targeted large gatherings of people, the Justice Department said.
