Child shot in head after shooting at home in Sumter County

SUMTER COUNTY, SC (WIS) – An incident report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) revealed that a child was shot in the forehead during a shooting at a home on Monday.

SCSO told WIS News 10 the child was a 9-year-old boy.

Officers responded to a home between West Brewinston Road and Thomas Sumter Highway.

An officer said in the report that they were in the area for a shooting with “a gunshot wound to the head.”

According to the report, an officer noticed a large number of shell casings on the street in front of the home leading toward Bainbridge Road.

According to the report, the deputy went to the backyard of the home and heard screaming inside. The officer then ran to the front door and saw multiple bullet holes in the door, along the wall and through the windows.

According to the report, two women ran around the left side of the home and told the deputy, “He’s inside,” when the deputy began knocking on the front door.

According to the report, the boy had a gunshot wound to the forehead and appeared to be breathing but unresponsive.

The boy was taken to hospital by ambulance.

In a news release sent out Monday by SCSO, officials said the child was in critical condition.

The child’s condition was unknown Tuesday.
