Sniper team sets up on Brown Palace roof as Broadway is closed, but no ‘criminal situation’

A heavily armed police team stationed on the roof of the Brown Palace and Broadway closed near the hotel on Tuesday.

A CPR News reporter spotted a police officer with a long rifle on the sidewalk near the historic hotel around 1 p.m. Tuesday. Police also appeared to have set up a staging tent near the hotel. A local politician later released a video of a similarly dressed sniper and scout on the roof of the hotel.

Police have released very little information about what is happening. “DPD supports another authority. This is not a criminal situation. We are unable to comment further at this time,” a spokesperson wrote to Denverite.

Police officers also responded to a threat near the hotel on Tuesday, but it was a “separate incident,” according to DPD.
