Oklahoma Bible bidding requirements are changing after reports list strict original qualifications

OKLAHOMA CITY (KSWO) – Bidding requirements to supply 55,000 Bibles to Oklahoma public schools have been changed after reports that the original requirements severely limited the number of Bibles eligible.

The original requirements stated that the selected Bibles must contain American founding documents such as the U.S. Constitution, the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Bill of Rights. The Bible should also have included the Pledge of Allegiance.

However, these qualifications have now been changed so that these additional documents can now be provided separately from the Bible.

In addition, according to the new RFP, costs will now also be a factor in awarding the contract.

The two Bibles that many pointed to as meeting the original strict requirements were either endorsed or promoted by former President Donald Trump.

The first was Lee Greenwood’s Bible titled “God Bless the USA Bible,” which sells online for $60. The second Bible was the “We The People Bible” and sells online for almost $90.

The Associated Press reported that the changes were made to save taxpayer money.
