Colin Cowherd missed the mark with his Dennis Allen prediction

In late August, Colin Cowherd of The Herd made a prediction about New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen. Cowherd predicted that Allen would be the first head coach to lose his job this season, pointing out that the Falcons and Panthers are both much better teams.

Yes, the same Panthers that absolutely destroyed the Saints in Week 1 are better than the Saints. Either way, Cowherd was wrong in his prediction. The first head coach to lose his job in 2024 was Robert Saleh, who was fired by the New York Jets on Tuesday morning.

How do you like these apples, cowherd?

All jokes aside, Saints fans probably wouldn’t be mad if Cowherd had been right in his prediction. Allen has been incredibly disappointing since taking over as head coach following Sean Payton’s departure in early 2022. Allen went 18-21 and the team continues to be a difficult unit to understand.

The Saints got off to a 2-0 start, beating the Panthers and Cowboys in consecutive weeks and leaving people wondering if they doubted Allen and the Saints. The team quickly fell back to earth, with humiliating losses to the Eagles and Falcons that sank to .500.

After a 13-point loss to the Chiefs on Monday Night Football that everyone could see in prime time, Saints fans still remember why they were excited about Cowherd’s prediction. One would have to assume Allen will be relieved of his duties if the Saints continue to fail, but perhaps the front office will think he deserves to finish out the year.

It’s disappointing to see that the Saints have become such an irrelevant team since Payton’s departure. Allen was a great defensive coordinator, but some people are great coordinators but not good head coaches. We can officially say that Allen now falls into this category.

Sorry Cowherd, for once we were hoping your opinion was spot on, but good luck next time.
