Billie Eilish vows to keep quiet about sexuality after a year of media fixation

Billie Eilish plans to keep quiet about her sexuality after her candid comments about her personal life made headlines earlier this year.

In a new cover story for Vogue published Tuesday, the “What Was I Made For” singer said she regrets being so candid in previous interviews and vowed not to make that mistake again.

“I wish no one knew about my sexuality or my dating life. Always, always, always,” she told the magazine.

“And I hope they never do it again,” the 22-year-old Grammy winner added. “And I’m never talking about my sexuality again. And I’m never talking about who I’m dating again.”

Eilish’s sexuality became a hot topic last year after she opened up about her orientation during a red carpet interview with Variety last December.

After she revealed that she was attracted to women in a November article for the outlet, a reporter asked if she had planned to come out.

“No, I didn’t,” the “Ocean Eyes” singer explained. “But I kind of thought, ‘Wasn’t that obvious?'”

Frustrated, the star called out Variety on social media a day later.

“Thank you Variety for my award and for making me walk on a red carpet at 11am instead of talking about everything else that matters,” she wrote on Instagram. “I like boys and girls, leave me alone please, who cares literally, stream ‘What was I made for?'”

Eilish addressed the Variety controversy again in an April interview with Rolling Stone, but her comments about being pressured to address her sexuality were ultimately overshadowed by her more provocative quotes.

While she told Rolling Stone that she “never in a million years intended to ever talk about my sexuality” and was upset that she wasn’t allowed to “control” her own story, she was also extremely vocal about her charms.

“I’ve been in love with girls my whole life, but I just didn’t get it – until last year when I realized I wanted my face in a vagina,” the singer said. She said sex was her “favorite topic.”

She told Vogue on Tuesday’s show that she now realizes her honesty may have backfired.

“I guess I also underestimate that the things I say become the biggest news in the whole world,” she said.
