Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler was robbed of a luxury watch in a Los Angeles suburb

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Walker Buehler was robbed of a luxury watch last month outside a horse racing track in suburban Los Angeles, police said Tuesday.

The MLB star was reportedly not threatened during the attack, which took place on September 28 at Santa Anita Park Racetrack in Arcadia, about 14 miles northeast of Los Angeles.

Police said they were investigating similar incidents that occurred on the same day and noted that they believe the crime was committed by groups stealing expensive watches at crowded events.

Buehler’s agency released a statement after the robbery was announced.

“After Walker’s final regular season start on September 27, he and a number of other players did not travel to Colorado for the final regular season series. “That weekend, Walker and his wife McKenzie attended horse racing at Santa Anita Park,” the statement from Excel Sports Management said. “As Walker walked from the paddock to their seats, he unknowingly became the victim of the theft of his watch.”

The statement continued: “The incident was reported to police and is currently under investigation. We are grateful that Walker and McKenzie were not injured and Walker is focused on the playoffs.”

The Arcadia Police Department also explained in a news release how the Sept. 28 robberies occurred.

“In one incident, a victim was walking in the middle of a large crowd. While moving in the crowd, the victim was surrounded by a group of unknown suspects,” the Arcadia police statement said. “These suspects restricted the victim’s movement and caused confusion. While the victim’s freedom of movement was restricted, one of the suspects managed to take the watch from the victim’s wrist. After removing the watch, the group of suspects dispersed and exited the building.” At this point, the victim realized his watch had been stolen and reported the incident to Santa Anita Park security. At no time during the incident was the victim threatened.

Buehler is scheduled to start Game 3 of the National League Divisional Series against the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night.

The robbery occurred shortly after San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was robbed at gunpoint in San Francisco on August 31.

According to CNN, a 17-year-old boy attempted to rob Pearsall as he walked alone in the city’s Union Square. An altercation ensued in which both Pearsall and the robber were injured.

“Shots from the suspect’s weapon struck both Mr. Pearsall and the subject,” San Francisco Police Chief William Scott said in a news conference after the incident, adding that several shots were fired.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said during a recent press conference that Pearsall continues to undergo physical therapy. He is expected to return to the field this season.
