Leland man arrested for sexual assault

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — A Leland man is behind bars and charged with sexual assault following an investigation by the Leland Police Department.

According to the city, 38-year-old Chad Lamall Keaton was arrested in connection with a sexual assault that occurred around 2 a.m. on Sept. 11 in the 200 block of Sand Pebble Drive. Leland police received the report later that morning and obtained warrants for Keaton’s arrest that same day.
Investigators have confirmed that Keaton and the 36-year-old female victim were previously in a relationship.

Keaton was charged with one count each of second-degree forcible rape, assault by strangulation, first-degree kidnapping and one count of violating the Domestic Violence Protection Order (DVPO). He is currently being held at the Brunswick County Detention Center on a $150,000 bond and a prison sentence for violating the DVPO.
