CITYWIDE – NYPD REPORTS “RECORD NUMBER” of demonstrations Protests have taken place across the city over the past year, many related to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. More than 4,100 marches, protests and other actions requiring the use of police personnel have taken place in the 12 months since Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack and Israel’s response, the ministry said Tuesday in its monthly crime summary.

“Not unrelated to the anger and hatred” was the 30% year-to-date increase in bias incidents investigated by the NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force, fueled by 117 more anti-Jewish acts than last year (275 versus 158), the NYPD wrote in their report. In a comparison between September 2024 and September 2023, the HCTF investigated 17 additional crimes, 13 of which were considered anti-Jewish.
