Ex-Warwickshire PC jailed for sexually abusing teenager

An investigation revealed that Surridge sexually assaulted the victim once before sexually assaulting her, Warwickshire Police said.

He later became a regular officer of the force.

In an interview, the victim told officers that she had blamed herself for the incident but now realized that she was actually a victim, police said.

Det Con Heather Webb said: “The victim showed great bravery in contacting police and assisting with this investigation.”

“This result shows that time is no obstacle to justice.

“I hope it gives other victims of sexual offenses, no matter when they occurred, the confidence to come forward.”

Det Supt Paul Thompson of Warwickshire Police said Surridge “should have been protecting vulnerable people, not exploiting them”.
