Georgia wide receiver arrested on assault charges, assault on unborn child charge

Georgia football receiver Colbie Young was arrested early Tuesday morning on charges of assault and battery.

The Miami transfer was arrested by Athens Clarke-County, Georgia police and taken to the Clarke County Jail at 4:18 a.m. and remained in jail as of 8:30 a.m. Bail was set at $2,500.

“This is a pending legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time,” Georgia Athletics said in a statement to the Athens Banner-Herald, part of the USA TODAY Network.

Young ranks fourth on the Bulldogs with 11 catches for 149 yards and second with two touchdown catches.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart fired another wide receiver, Rara Thomas, on Aug. 1 after his second domestic violence arrest.

The 6-foot-3, 215 Young caught 79 passes for 930 yards and 10 touchdowns over his last two seasons in Miami. He was third on the team last season with 47 catches for 563 yards and 5 touchdowns.
