Well… this hurts. I find it really difficult to explain how I feel, but I’ll try.

“When I started auditioning for this show, I knew it was special, especially because of the fact that Charlie Covell’s scripts touched me in a way that most things didn’t. I knew all of these people and I loved them all – every flaw, everything.

“For the first time in my life I was really proud. I’m obviously proud of everyone’s work and the care they put into this project because I can tell you, they left everything on the floor. But I was also proud of myself, and that’s something I’ve struggled with.

“When I was cast, I couldn’t believe anyone saw me. A girl who is not only a minority, but also a survivor of the SA – and you’re telling me that someone thinks I could be one of the leads of a show, have agency, pursue my own mission, and be desirable enough to be their lover to be not just one amazing person, but two? Was I worthy of this? Everything that happened from that point on really changed my perspective.

“As the journey continued, I began to learn more about the absolutely amazing talent that lies within – as if Charlie wasn’t enough. Then I found out about our director Georgi [Banks-Davies] and Runyararo [Mapfumo]. It continued with our incredible cast; There are far too many to list, but I must recognize the three who became lifelong friends, family, and lifelines during our month-long journey through Spain: Misia [Butler]Nabhan [Rizwan] and Killian [Scott].

“Our wonderful HMU department, wardrobe department, Sister, Netflix, our production team and our entire crew – every single person involved was a hit. And there I sat and asked myself, how? Why me? And the answer I often got back was: Why not you?

“Everyone was brilliant and unique. Every performance surprised and thrilled me. I can’t believe I get to do this to all of you. We have created something strange, dark, funny, crazy and utterly tragic – something completely human. THIS is a feeling I want to take with me.

“Thank you for letting me be your Riddy. I had the time of my life.”

There’s more to come…
