Service Robot Sales Rise 30% Globally – IFR Reports

FRANKFURT AM MAIN, Germany, October 8, 2024–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Sales of professional service robots increased by 30% worldwide. In 2023, more than 205,000 units were registered by the IFR Statistics Department. Almost 80% of the robots came from Asia Pacific with 162,284 units sold. This was followed by Europe with 33,918 units sold and America with 8,927 units sold. This emerges from the World Robotics 2024 Service Robots report presented by the International Federation of Robotics (IFR).

“The service robotics industry is changing: more and more robots are serving on factory floors, in shopping centers or helping with deliveries on the street,” says Marina Bill, President of the International Federation of Robotics.

More than every second professional service robot sold in 2023 was built for this application class Transport and logistics. Sales rose 35%, with nearly 113,000 units sold in 2023. As the industry suffers from a significant labor shortage, there is a strong need for technological support. For example, one of the most time-consuming tasks for truck drivers is loading and unloading, where robotic applications offer dedicated solutions for automation. The key to acceptance is that the application is user-friendly and understandable even for non-technical employees.

Top 3 countries

The United States is home to the world’s largest manufacturers of service and medical robots; 199 companies have their headquarters there. 66% of these manufacturers produce professional Service robots, 27% consumer Service robots and 12% medical Robot.

China takes second place with a total of 107 manufacturers of service and medical robots. The proportion of companies offering professional At 80%, the use of service robots is even higher than in the USA. Total 34% offer consumer Robots and only 5% medical Robot.

Germany takes third place with 83 companies. Like China, it has a very high proportion professional Manufacturer of service robots with a share of 79%. Total 17% offer consumer applications and 12% medical Robot.
