Fatal police shooting in northeast Colorado Springs is under investigation

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) — The Colorado Springs Police Department says the investigation continues after a police-involved shooting Tuesday.

Just before midnight Monday, police responded to a call involving a suicidal person at a residence in the 5100 block of Prairie Grass Lane, near Tutt Boulevard.

According to initial reports, the male suspect lived in the apartment, was involved in an argument with his roommates and injured himself with a knife.

When police arrived at the scene, the department said the man with that knife aggressively approached the officers, causing one of the officers to fire the weapon at least once.

Although officers performed life-saving measures, the man was taken to a medical facility where authorities pronounced him dead.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is now in charge of the investigation.

The intersection of Prairie Grass and Buckshot Way is cordoned off and the Metro Crime Lab arrived just before 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Some neighbors noticed the scene as they headed to work, and police allowed them to exit the block via the other end.

This is a developing story and will be updated as we learn more.
