Investigation into a dog attack in Nantyglo after a girl was seriously injured

Police forensic investigators are investigating a semi-detached house after a 12-year-old girl suffered life-changing injuries when she was attacked by a dog.

On Tuesday morning police taped off the raised walkway in front of the house and the road that runs along the side of the house and garden on a property at Nantyglo in Blaenau Gwent.

Gwent Police were then called to the scene Reports of the attack on Monday evening.

A 42-year-old woman and a man, both from the area, were arrested on suspicion of owning or possessing a dog bred for fighting and possessing or possessing a dog dangerously out of control.

A police officer guarded the scene and people living a few doors away said they were “shocked”.

The girl was taken to hospital after the attack, which happened on The Crescent, Nantyglo, at around 5.50pm BST on Monday.

Gwent Police said the dog had been seized by officers and would be destroyed, adding that no other animals were involved in the attack.

Police added that there was no further threat to the public.
