Inmate in court for gang-related stabbing

The Virginia Department of Corrections confirmed that 26-year-old Guatemalan inmate Axel Wilfredo Ortiz Garcia, a “confirmed member” of MS-13, is accused in another stabbing at Greensville Correctional Center.

Ortiz Garcia is accused of stabbing two correctional officers last Tuesday. The incident is still under investigation.

Ortiz Garcia, who has maximum security status, was temporarily detained in Greensville pursuant to a court order from the Sussex Circuit Court in connection with his prosecution for an incident at the Sussex 1 State Prison.

He is accused the attack in April 2024 on another correctional officer and the fatal stabbing attack on K-9 Rivan, according to the DOC.
