Early voting in Georgia’s historic 2024 election begins today

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Early voting in Georgia’s critically important presidential, congressional, state and local elections begins Tuesday, with the Nov. 5, 2024 election just three weeks away.

Early voting was a hit in Georgia as state election officials consistently cited its ease and convenience for voters, as opposed to long lines on Election Day.

Last Monday, October 7th, was the last day to register to vote in Georgia. Advance in-person voting runs through Friday, November 1st. The Georgia Secretary of State has been accepting applications for absentee ballots since August.

Voters must show one of these photo IDs when voting:

  • Any valid photo ID issued by the state or federal government, including a free ID card issued by your county registrar’s office or the Georgia Department of Driver Services;
  • Georgia driver’s license, even if expired;
  • Valid photo identification of an employee of a branch, department, agency, or instrumentality of the United States Government, Georgia, or a county, municipality, board, agency, or other instrumentality of the State;
  • Valid US passport ID;
  • Valid U.S. military photo ID with photo of voter;
  • Student photo ID card issued by a public college, university or technical school in Georgia;
  • Valid tribal photo ID with your photo.

Voters who cannot provide photo ID can vote provisionally. They must provide a copy of their ID to the county’s Board of Elections and Registration within three days of the election.

Early voting has been underway in several states for several weeks as former President Donald Trump attempts to become the first former US leader since the 19th century to retake the White House after losing his re-election bid.

Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris is trying to become the first woman and woman of color elected to the Oval Office.
