Five Russian climbers die on Mount Dhaulagiri during Nepal’s autumn climbing season

Five Russian mountaineers identified as Alexander Duscheyko, Oleg Kruglov, Vladimir Chstikov, Mikhail NosenkoAnd Dmitrii Shpilevoitragically died after falling Mount Dhaulagirithe world’s seventh-highest peak, during Nepal’s autumn climbing season, expedition organizers confirmed Tuesday.

The climbers were attempting to scale the 8,167-meter (26,788-foot) peak Mount Dhaulagiriknown for its challenging terrain. The group had been missing since Sunday and on Tuesday a rescue helicopter located their bodies at an altitude of 7,100 meters, it was said Pemba Jangbu Sherpa from I AM trekking and expeditionsa Kathmandu based trekking company.

The logistics of recovering the bodies from such a height remain uncertain, as significant planning, equipment and manpower are required to bring them safely down the mountain.

In the group, two climbers had successfully reached the summit, while the others turned back before reaching the summit. The climbers lost radio contact with their base camp team shortly after their descent.

Nepal’s fall climbing season, which began last month, is less crowded than the more popular spring season. It offers climbers lower permit fees, but brings with it difficult weather conditions and limited visibility. Information about the cause of the accident remains scarce.
