The fishing trip turns tragic after a six-year-old falls into the water and his father jumps in to save him

DALLAS (WFAA) – A family fishing trip to a Texas lake turned tragic when a six-year-old boy slipped into the water and was swept away by the current. His father tried to save him, but none of them ever came back up.

Fernando Carlos, 26, and his 6-year-old son Noah Carlos went on a fishing trip with family members to Mountain Creek Lake in Dallas on Saturday. The boy slipped into the water and was washed under. His father jumped in to save him, but also went into hiding.

The father and son’s family members tried to rescue them, but the current was too strong and washed them away. According to police, none of them have resurfaced.

Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to the scene at approximately 1:37 p.m. With the help of the Dallas Police Department and the Game Warden’s Office, Carlos’ body was recovered around 5:00 p.m. His son’s body was recovered Sunday afternoon.

The family says Carlos died a hero. They called him a great father, brother, son and uncle. Noah is described as a goofy boy who loved listening to music, dancing and playing Fortnite.

“This is a sad, tragic story that we wish was a nightmare [we] “I could wake up, but unfortunately that’s not the case,” reads a GoFundMe created to support the surviving family of the father and son.

In addition to caring for his children, Carlos was also his mother’s sole caregiver. According to family members, he leaves behind two daughters, ages 5 and 9.
