Everything you need to know about the Disney+ drama ‘Rivals’ | Television & Radio | Showbiz and television

Rivals is coming soon, but when will the series premiere and who will make up the all-star cast?

Disney+ will be home to the highly anticipated adaptation of author Jilly Cooper’s book Rivals, originally published in the late 1980s.

Now it’s about to gain a whole new fan base as the seductive gameplay drama airs on the streamer for the first time.

Disney+ release date rivals

The countdown begins as Rivals debuts on Disney+ on Friday, October 18th.

The series will consist of eight episodes in total, all of which will be shown in one go on the series’ initial release date.

Rivals in the Disney+ lineup

Rivals is literally chock-full of famous faces, most notably actor Alex Hassell as the charismatic former Olympian and Tory MP Rupert Campbell-Black.

He will be remembered for his role as Metatron in His Dark Materials, as well as his starring roles in The Boys and Silent Witness.

Hassell is joined by Doctor Who and Good Omens star David Tennant as Rupert’s selfish neighbor Lord Baddingham, who is also the controller of Corinium Television.

Poldark and Being Human star Aidan Turner is also in the cast as Declan O’Hara, who begins work as a presenter for Corinium TV, and EastEnders star Danny Dyer as lovable self-made electronics millionaire Freddie Jones.

Other notable stars include The Inbetweeners’ Emily Atack, W1A’s Rufus Jones, Our Girl star Luke Pasqualino and Sex Education’s Bella Maclean, to name a few.

Rivals in the plot of Disney+

Based on the novel of the same name by author Jilly Cooper, Rivals delves into the ruthless world of independent television in the late 1980s.

The book and series revolve around the rivalry between former Olympic rider and Conservative MP Rupert Campbell-Black and television station controller Lord Tony Baddingham.

With the future of Corinium Television hanging in the balance, the two come to blows as both are determined to emerge victorious.

Rivals launches on Disney+ on Friday, October 18th.
