Poldark’s Aidan Turner on ‘refreshing’ sex scenes in new drama

Aidan Turner has spoken about filming sex scenes for the new racy drama Rivals on Disney+.

The Irish actor will play TV presenter Declan O’Hara in the new adaptation of Jilly Cooper’s novel of the same name.

In an exclusive interview with Digital spyTurner spoke of reading the scripts for the first time and immediately wanting to be involved in the big-budget, ensemble-led drama.

He said: “I was aware of Jilly Cooper’s books but I’ve never read any. When the scripts came, I just thought: I’m a part of it.”

“It’s fun, but the sex is fun too. There are different types of sex, different types of relationships and dynamics that happen to everyone on this sexual journey. So it’s interesting to see those too.”

Although he’s no stranger to intimate scenes, having starred in the brooding film “18.”Th Drama of the century PoldarkRegarding the sex scenes, Turner added: “I think we do it differently. It actually feels refreshing.”

Turner’s co-star Nafessa Williams, who plays TV producer Cameron Cook and works alongside Turner’s character Declan at Cotswolds broadcaster Corinium, said the drama also goes beyond sex.

She told us during a promotional tour for the show: “Sex is just a small part of it, I would say. For me it was about Cameron being smart and brave.”

“I have to say that the gender is very balanced. Also, for my character in particular, I would say that she owns her sexuality. She is very powerful in the way she handles it. I noticed that.”

“I don’t shy away from sex either. If it’s part of the story, I’m a storyteller and I’ll tell it.”
